Notes

Johnny Briggs uses photography to explore lost memories of childhood. Although easily assumed to be photoshopped or faked, upon closer inspection the images are often realised to be more real than first expected. Briggs describes his work, "Involving staged installations, the cartoonesque and the performative, I looks back to my younger self and attempt to re-capture childhood nature through my assuming adult eyes."

"I like these clues that hint at an alternative truth behind the image. A theme that comes into play here is the artificiality of the home - I’ve often seen culture as something that gets in the way of seeing, as pulling the wool over our eyes. I see parents as the agents of culture, and the home as the manifestation of this culture that I endeavour to escape and think outside of. To think outside of the normal."

Jonny Briggs studied at Chelsea College of Art (BA, 2008) and Royal College of Art (MA, 2011) in London.

Awards include Saatchi Gallery UK/raine Finalist, a 2014 Paul Huf nomination (Brett Rogers), Foam Talent 2014, the 2011 Conran Award for Fine Art, a Lumi Honorary Art Award (2011), Saatchi New Sensations 2011 Winner, The Catlin Prize finalist 2012, and a NESTA Creative Sparks Award.
