An auction of contemporary art landscapes, seascapes and townscapes.
Menier Gallery, London, SE1 1RU
We live in a pretty bonkers world. The state of our international and national politics can, at times, be terrifying. The added pressures on our daily lives of a 24-hour social media culture, combined with ever increasing demands on our work/life balances is relentless. From time to time we need to escape all this. Far From the Madding Crowd was a nod to exactly that. It was a curated exhibition and auction of landscape themed art.
Landscape art has always provided a removed viewpoint of life: the artist steps back from the scene and paints, sketches, photographs or even sculpts what they observe - a voyeur of reality. A moment of escape.
Partnering with Narcissus Arts, The Auction Collective brought together 49 exciting landscape themed pictures from 26 inspiring, yet unrepresented, artists. Photographs, lightboxes, drawings, paintings and prints were all included with estimates ranging from £100 – £5,000.
It was a fantastic evening. Over 170 people joined us at the gallery for the auction, with 70 of them taking part in frenetic bidding battles to own the artworks.
By the end of the evening 36 (73%) of the artworks had sold and were on their way to new homes. It was a wonderful celebration of these incredibly talented artists.
